WELCOME TO imspec! This tool allows you to characterize the spectra and their temporal evolution at selected source regions. There are two methods to display the RHESSI image spectrum: (i) in the RGB mode, red/green/blue colors represent increasing energy bands, and (ii) in the `slice' mode, cuts through the image cube at given energy bands are shown (menu `Spectral Representation'). Use the left mouse button (click and drag) to select regions of which the spectrum will be shown. Several regions may be selected. For each, a spectrum window pops up, in which up to 2 spectral fits can be made (initiated by `new fit'). The fit boundaries (diamonds) can be adjusted using the left mouse button (click and drag). The `delete fit' button removes the latest modified fit. If the fits file contains an image cube with several time bins, then a movie of the spectral evolution can be generated. The actual time bin is shown in the Time Selection Menu (e.g., 2/12 indicates bin 2 of 12). In this menu, you may use the < > (<< >>) buttons to step (move) through the time dimension of the image cube. The result of time-dependent fits (if any) is displayed by `Show Fit(t)'. Output to ASCII, IDL SAVE, and POSTSCRIPT files (idl.asc,idl.dat,idl.ps) is provided by the respective buttons. To use the .dat file, use `IDL>restore idl.dat' and look at the `readme' string for explanation of the meaning of the fit coefficients. Hint: although the update should work automatically, you may use `redraw' and `make fit' to enforce actuality and activate a spectrum window.
