My Week at GSFC Away from School

What I learned at NASA GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER was that when students from other schools come to visit the space center, they learn the complexities of space through the use of technology and the construction of models based on observations and measurements. They also use astronomical instruments to collect data to describe and record the position of planet earth.

Rockets

Our week at Goddard Space Flight Center was fun. We did a lot of fun things. We interviewed people and we even built models! My favorite part was when we built the rockets and they blasted off into the sky. My rocket didn't go too far though. I also liked it when we got on the computers and made our web page. This interesting experience has made me think about becoming an astronaut even more. It was fun and I would love to come again. I know if you try the Goddard Space Flight Center you will find it fun and interesting. One thing I forgot to tell you was that the hosts were great. They were fun and taught us at the same time. It was a lot of fun.

THE KNOWLEDGE THAT I GAINED

I'M A STUDENT AT HINE JHS. THE KNOWLEDGE THAT I GAINED AT NASA'S GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER WAS INTERESTING. WE INTERVIEWED CO-WORKERS THAT WERE ASTROPHYSICISTS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ENGINEERS AND SOME OTHER WORKERS THAT WORKED ON THE LANDSAT 7 SATELLITE. WE ALSO LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE SOLAR SYSTEM, THE SUN , GALAXIES, AND OTHER THINGS ABOUT SPACE. THEY GAVE OUT PICTURES OF THE SUN, DIFFERENT KINDS OF SATELLITES LIKE THE HUBBLE TELESCOPE AND THE LANDSAT 7, PICTURES OF ROCKETS THAT THEY LAUNCH THE SATELLITES ON, AND THEY GAVE US A LOCATION MAP OF GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER. I REALLY HAD FUN WORKING WITH NASA.

My week at NASA was........

My week at NASA was fun. I say that because we learned so much. We learned about the clean room and other rooms; and we also learned about the suits that they have to put on to keep the dust out of the clean room. At NASA, we made space rockets and we looked at movies about the sun and its layers. We took pictures and we let our space rockets blast off two times. We did so much at NASA I would like to come back.

Landsat7

Our week at Goddard Space Flight Center has been very interesting. We have learned many things about the Sun, Landsat 7 and many other things. We went on a tour of the Space Flight Center and made stuff like rockets that really launch, and a model of the Landsat 7 Satellite. This trip has been very educational and fun. We went to the clean room. We saw scientists in bunny suits. Making the rockets was a lot of fun. We wouldn't mind coming back again. I would definitely recommend this program to others as well as you.

Hubble Telescope

This is how we spent our week at Goddard Space Center. First we went to a special room and got our folders and a format on how to interview a person. We interviewed about 3 or 4 people. We watched a movie about the Space Center and the type of things the people do. Then we went on a walking tour and learned about the clean room, Hubble telescope, bunny suits, satellites, and how rockets launch. We also made our own Hubble telescopes out of paper and we used markers to color it. The tape was for putting it together. We did a whole lot of stuff there.

Flying

My week at the Goddard Space Flight Center was very interesting. I saw a lot of satellites that I never even knew about. I saw a piece of a satellite that has been sent into space. The first day when we went on that long walk and I got hot but when we got in the buildings I cooled off. The second day it was okay because we got to build a satellite.  I couldn't figure it out at first then I got it a little bit.  I think an hour later I was finished. The third day we made rockets and I really enjoyed that.  I thought it was stupid at first but when I heard that we were going to fly them I knew it was okay. The first time we blasted off my rocket fell down and it flew my way. The second time it flew up high.  I really enjoyed my week here.  I hope we can come back again some day.

A lot to Offer

My week at SUNBEAMS was fun. We learned a lot of things about NASA and the GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER. We had scavenger hunts, and we even built a model of the landstat7. We learned things about the earth, space, and the sun that we don't normally learn about. My week at SUNBEAMS was a great experience and I think all schools should get the experience that I had because NASA has a lot to offer kids like you and me all over the United States .

Work and Fun

NASA'S GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER WAS THE BEST TRIP I HAD IN A LONG TIME.  I HAD FUN AND WORKED AT THE SAME TIME. I MET A LOT OF NEW PEOPLE THAT WORK AT NASA LIKE PAUL. HE IS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. FRANK WANTS TO BE A MATH TEACHER IN DC. DR. CAROL IS AN ASTROPHYSICIST.  I LOVED THIS NASA TRIP.

Paper Rockets

My week at Goddard Space Flight Center was fun. I learned about the different speeds at which the sun rotates.  I also built a model of the LANDSAT 7 that went up in space in February of 1998. Have you built a ROCKET out of paper? Well I have, it is fun .

Satellites

I am a student at Hine Jr. High School and I am in the seventh grade . While at Goddard we learned about spaceships and different types of scientists. We saw the clean room and the people in the bunny suits . We saw the blankets that kept the satellite from getting too cold or getting too hot from the sun . We watched two movies about the Earth. My class built a satellite and used batteries. We went on a long hike going to different buildings and places. My class and I had a chance to interview Frank Williams, Dr. Jo, and Paul Guy . My class and I had a fun time and I would like to come back again.

Interviewing a Scientist

I like working on the Landsat 7 model and the rocket activity. I like the NASA tour. It was very interesting. I like working with Ms. Stokes of the SUNBEAMS program. I enjoyed interviewing the scientist. I liked the cleaning room that the Hubble telescope was in.

A Wonderful Time

What I did at the Goddard Space Flight Center was unique. We went to the cleaning room. The Scientist were dressed in bunny suits. We made rockets with paper. We had to put Alka-Seltzer in our film bottles. Then we made a model of Landsat 7. First we had to color and then cut it out. It was made out of cardboard. At 11:30 a.m. We would listen to music and play basketball. We would interview people like Frank Williams, Paul Guy, and Dr. Jo. I had such a wonderful time being at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

My Challenges and Experience

On Tuesday Mrs. Stokes gave us a tour around the Goddard Space Flight Center. Outside we saw Geese and lots of land filled with grass. While we were on the tour we went to the clean room that was dust free and dirt free. On the wall there was a wall filled with air filters, that helped keep the room clean. They needed that room to keep everything in that room clean so that when the stuff goes into space the dust and dirt won't cause any malfunctioning. We also interviewed our very first person, her name was Dr. Jo. On Wednesday we built a satellite model named LANDSAT 7. We also interviewed Mr. Paul Guy. He also gave us a model of LANDSAT 7. On Thursday we learned about the Sun and how the parts of the Sun rotates in opposite ways. Finally we made rocket models and blasted them 15 to 20 ft. into the air. We used water and alka seltzer for its fuel.

Features of the Sun

My week at the Goddard Space Flight Center was great. I had fun and I learned many things. I learned about the Sun, satellites, and spaceships. I learned about the features of the sun. Which are sunspots, prominences, and more. I learned that scientists first make models of the satellites that they are going to send into orbit. With these models, they practice and practice so they can get it right. Then when they are ready, they load the satellite into the cargo bay of the space shuttle. I had a great time. I learned so much. I'm glad that I came here. This was the best week of the school year that I have ever had.

THERE IS A SATELLITE IN SPACE NOW NAMED LANDSAT7.  IT IS OBSERVING EARTH'S CHANGES FROM SPACE. DID YOU KNOW THAT LANDSAT5 HAS BEEN IN SPACE SINCE 1984 AND ITS STILL WORKING????????LANDSAT7 WAS LAUNCHED FEBRUARY OF 1998. WE PLAYED BASKETBALL AND HAD A LOT OF FUN!!!! I HOPE YOU COME VISIT SUNBEAMS AND THE NASA GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER.  HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!! BE COOL AND STAY OUT OF TROUBLE AIGHT.

The Sun

My week at NASA was an exciting week. I learned so many different things that I didn't know about space. I learned that the sun was made of many different particles. I also learned how to build many objects such as building a rocket and how to build a satellite. It was nice for the NASA volunteers to let us interview them. This gave us a good opportunity to think about what we would like to become when we reach the point where we are going to make a career choice. We also learned about space shuttles. Overall, the trip to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center was educational, exciting and fun.

A Science Experience

My week at Goddard Space Flight Center was interesting. When we first came to Goddard I knew it was going to be fun. I have heard of NASA before. I know that they put satellites and rockets in space. I think they do a very good job at doing that. I really liked when we were building rockets. I like to build things. My rocket did not go very high but it was a good experience. The satellite was a little complicated. That let me know that everything isn't easy. I would consider coming back here when I am in High School. This is a very educational place. I have never been here before. It was a fun place to come to. I now know that NASA does some really important things. I still don't want to be a space person, but I am interested. I might not want to be a space scientist but I do love to experiment. I put an action figure in a cup and froze it. I melted the ice and realized that the legs were stiff.

FUN AT SUNBEAMS

I really enjoyed coming to Goddard Space Flight Center.  I really thought Mrs. Stokes was nice. I learned a lot of things I never knew before. I learned a lot about the sun.  I worked as hard as I could at the NASA program. I thought that I wouldn't be able to do the work, but I was wrong . The things I enjoyed doing was making the rocket and then launching it. I like watching the videos, and learning things about the sun, the space shuttle, and how rockets work. This program inspired me to succeed more in life, and determine what I want to do in life.

LEARNING ABOUT THE SUN
MY WEEK AT GODDARD SPACE CENTER WAS INTERESTING . I LEARNED A LOT OF THINGS . FOR INSTANCE BUILDING A ROCKET, LEARNING ABOUT THE SUN, BUILDING A SATELLITE, INTERVIEWING AND LEARNING WHAT SOME PEOPLE DO FOR A LIVING. WORKING FOR NASA IS TOUGHER THAN I EXPECTED . THERE IS A LOT THAT GOES ON THAT WE DON 'T PAY ATTENTION TO . THIS WAS MY WEEK AT GODDARD SPACE CENTER. Bye !!!!
