We are participating in a program called SUNBEAMS. That means Students
United with NASA Becoming Enthusiastic About Math and Science. In this
program we did interviews, projects activities and more. This program was
a great experience. We learned the meaning of new words like payload, integration,
evaluation, enthusiastic, and clean room, or words we already know but
have different meanings like testing, instrument, and satellite. The program
called SUNBEAMS was interesting and I enjoyed it.
This week I had a great time at Goddard Space Flight Center learning
about math and science. On
Tuesday we went to different building and we learned about the clean
room where they take the
instument at so they can be clean. Wednesday we built rockets and then
we launched them. For the fuel
we use water and alka-seltzer. Thursday we learned how to talk in computer
language with 1 and 0. I had a great time here at Goddard Space Flight
Center. I learned a lot of things I did not know before.
The SUNBEAMS program is exciting. We did science projects that were
work and fun. It has been a
very great experience. We used a computer language called binary code
which deals with mathematics.
We evaluated things. We learned about technology and manipulated things.
We learned new words like
pixel. IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!
During the time I visited the SUNBEAMS program I had fun. We learned
about math and science. We
learned how to speak in computer language, which is called binary code.
The first day we arrived I was
so excited. We went to visit the clean room and Mrs. Stokes showed
us what the workers do in the
cleanroom. Then we went to the testing room and Mrs. Stokes told us
what happens in the testing room; in
the testing room they experiment on instruments to make sure they work
effectively. I was very
enthusiastic the entire week!!!
I had an exciting time at the NASA SUNBEAMS Program. We learned alot
about rockets and their parts. We learned about satellites, payloads, and
instruments used to collect light, heat, and noise ect. We went for 4 days
and every day I became more enthusiatic. I am glad I went to the SUNBEAMS
parogram because I love to represent my school. But the best part was learning
to build a rocket and how to read people's minds. I think everyone from
each school should visit, at least 12 at a time.
For the last week, I attended the SUNBEAMS program. I enjoyed the
math and reading minds actvities. I never knew I could enjoy so much in
just a week. The little actvities we did with the little man were so creative,
I could not believe it. I also learned that if you mixed alka-seltzer and
water it would make a chemical change which produces CO2 [carbon-dioxide]
gas .The build up of CO2 gas in the cannister caused a sudden release pushing
the rocket into the sky. And I also learned about clean rooms. These are
special rooms filled with filtered air, where instruments are cleaned on
their last stop before being used in space flight.
I really enjoyed my trip to NASA. I had a lot of fun with Mrs. Stokes
and my fellow friends at ''THE GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER.'' Mrs. Stokes
was a nice teacher to us. She also taught us how to make a rocket made
with paper for the flaps and a film canister. I also learned new words
like tecnology, film canister, clean room, chemical reaction, and payload.
I learned that my purpose is to tell everybody else, about what I learned
at The NASA Center. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Vice President
of Harley-Davidson. His name was Mr. Steve Phillips. Mr. Phillips was excited
to meet us at the Goddard Space Center. I also learned about mind reading.
I learned a lot of things at Goddard Space Center, like how to read your
mind with numbers. We also saw these two beautiful deer and a hole for
a rabbit, snake, and fox. The whole week was fun but boring at times. This
boy named Alonzo Smith from Mr. Lurrys class and a boy named Timothy Blichard
from Mrs.Lynchs class were there too. Alonzo said he couldn't believe his
eyes when he saw those two deer jump from one side to the other and neither
could Timothy. That Was My Week at Goddard Space Center.
At Goddard Space Flight Center I learned about the universe.I also
learned what kind of skills you need to be a scientist. The SUNBEAMS program
taught me words that I did not know. This program was like a fun, exploratory
camp. This program taught me math and science. My opinion about this program
is that it is the best. During our first tour we saw images of satellites.
Then we visited a big Clean Room. The clean room is where instruments are
cleaned before utilization in space. We made rockets out of film canisters.
Water and alka-seltzer were put in the film canister. There was a chemical
change, which produced CO2 gas and made the rocket fly. The first day we
arrived we meet the Vice President of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. The
technology at Goddard is very amazing. During this week we also learned
how to read Binary codes. We also interviewed a doctor. I think this week
was the best of my life. The mind game that we played was very interesting
to me. I would love to come back any day. I think that they have alot of
interesting technology. I would tell my whole family about this program.
The whole week I was visiting I met alot of interesting scientists. We
learned how to read a computer language. I think that this space flight
center is very well equipped.
I learned about a lot of things while I was at NASA. We all went
looking around learning about what people do when they come to work. While
we were looking around we went to see what they do when they work in the
clean room. In the clean room they clean things off that will be taken
up in to space. We also learned that the people who work in the clean room
have to wear bunny suits so germs won't get on the things that will be
taken up to space.
