Application Procedures for 2008

1. Email the intern coordinator at interns@helio.gsfc.nasa.gov
your 
resume and cover letter
in .pdf or .doc format as one attachment,
this is how you
apply with us, and 3 letters of recommendations
by
email from your references directly to me, no
later than
March 31, 2007. You
can also mail your resume
to the address below:

All students are given a stipend that is disbursed twice a month.
2. Your resume should have the following requirements:
a) U.S. citizenship is required, state it on resume.
b) Please
state clearly in your resume what year you will be
in the upcoming fall term: Ex) Fall
2008:Freshman.
c) Email and contact phone numbers VERY IMPORTANT
d) Full name and address.
e)
Both cover letter and resume should be together as one
attachment when
you email it. You will receive an email
confirming that your resume was received.
f) You must be at least 16 years old and a junior in high school to apply.
3. Please review the research areas available at GSFC at
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/home/index.html.
Click onto About, Click
onto Organizations, then click onto the
division
most likely to have your type
of research you are
interested in. I recommend that your research interest be
stated in your
cover letter. Mentors will have a better idea as to what area of
research you want to work in this summer.
4. After your resume has been submitted, it will be placed on our website
for review
by our mentors. Only mentors will have access to resumes
and to the
list of hired students. The mentor will contact you first
for
an interview. Although the program runs from June
2 to August 31, 2008, you may be hired before June 2 or after, and/or
for less than 12 weeks.
5. Do not be discouraged if you do
not hear from mentors up to the
deadline. Please email the intern
coordinator if you wish to
withdraw your resume from
the list due to other obligations
you may
have, as soon as know you are no longer available.
6. If you and the mentor reach
agreement as to the type of research
involved and the hours required to complete
the project, then the
mentor will contact the intern
coordinator.
7. Final confirmation of your internship for the summer at GSFC
will be emailed to
you by the intern coordinator in a formal letter.
