Footpoint Images

Our First Study

Footpoints (where the magnetic loops intersect with the solar "surface") exist in the hard x-ray (> 20 keV). For our first study, "Analysis of RHESSI Flares using a Radio Astronomical Technique," we picked 25 flares based on the following criteria:

  1. The flare was in the hard x-ray domain (we actually choose > 25 keV)
  2. There are at least 2 well-resolved flare footpoints in the Clean images
  3. Count rates in the Clean maps are > 10e+04

Below are reconstructed RHESSI images using the MEM_NJIT software. Click on any image for flare data as well as images and contours from MEM_NJIT, Clean, and Pixons.
