Running Linux on the VMware Player

1. Log into Linux as root. The default root password is thoughtpolice.
   
   
    
2. Click Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal to bring up a command terminal window.
   
   
    
3. Use the passwd command to change the root password to something more secure:
   
   
    
4. A security update icon will appear soon after logging in.
   
   
   Applying the necessary updates can take an hour or longer. Below are some of the update screens you may encounter.
