Subject: Feedback to HDAW in Berkeley

Dear Brian,

Getting feedback is of the greatest importance to my plans for having a similar
workshop here. Thus I am sending you my own impressions on the HESSI
Data Analysis Workshop in Berkeley:

1. As I came a day late, I missed many of the talks. This may have added
to my experience that I had learned most from my interactions with the
software people. Still I would not completely drop the talks. They give
a greater background than immediately needed.

2. The workshop triggered me to play with the GUI for many hours to
explore the limits of the technique.

3. The workshop lowered my threshold for command line interaction, but
left me with the impression that I will use the GUI whenever I can.

OTHER MATTERS:
The workshop has motivated Pascal a lot. He is now interacting with the
software people here on nearly a daily basis. Believe it or not, HEDC is
making rapid progress. Of course, there is still a lot to be done.  I hope
that we will be able to make some kind of a first release soon, so
everybody can play with it.

As we have decided to announce the Zurich HESSI Data Analysis Workshop
after launch, with a date at least two months thereafter but avoiding the
vacation months July and August, a next possible date is from Aug.30 to
Sept.1 2001. We are making this our temporary date for reservations, but will
not yet announce it to the participants.

Looking forward to HESSI,

Arnold Benz
