• Software out of date

    If the HESSI software has been upgraded since the last time you connected to the network, the programs might not run the way you expect. To upgrade a PC right away when you are connected to a network with the Solar Software tree installed, type at the IDL prompt: 
       SSWIDL> ssw_upgrade,/spawn,/verbose  [Unix,linux]
   SSWIDL> ssw_upgrade./verbose         [Windows]

    If you are running a workstation on a network, you should get the network administrator to run the upgrade nightly.

  • SSW Path problem

    If you start up SSWIDL and then type "hessi" at the command line, and get something like: 
       SSWIDL> hessi
   % Attempt to call undefined procedure/function: 'HESSI'.
   % Execution halted at:  $MAIN$                 
   SSWIDL>
    You might need basic information about installation of the Solar Software tree, which you can find at:

  • Software Bugs

    No one is pretending that the HESSI software is bug-free. There are known bugs and they are being worked on. There are surely unknown bugs which will rise up and bite us. Please report bugs to HESSI software writers with all the appropriate information. The hessi bulletin board will have a location for bug reports.

  • Undocumented Features

    Documentation always lags behind software, and there are many features of the software that only the author of a particular program knows. Many of these features you will never need to know, but often a feature should be publicized, and for some reason it hasn't been. If you discover an undocumented "feature" of general interest, let the HESSI team know about it, and in due course it will be documented.
