Tohban Report, 15 - 22 December 2003 Hugh Hudson Solar Activity -------------- Solar activity returned this week somewhat, presumably the 3rd rotation of the October-November regions. But nothing big. How many GOES flares occurred? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 15 39 0 0 And how many had good RHESSI coverage? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 10 21 0 0 And how many are listed in the RHESSI flare_list? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 11 21 0 0 How many RHESSI flares: 114 For monitoring solar activity it should be noted that Sam Freeland's "latest events" pages are now being archived: http://www.lmsal.com/solarsoft/latest_events_archive.html This is an excellent place to see where a given flare was located and to get some images. Its main timeline plot has clickable event numbers. Jim's splendid flare finder goofed interestingly this week in a few cases: 16-Dec 05:45 16-Dec 23:15 17-Dec 15:10 18-Dec 05:30 19-Dec 00:50 20-Dec 18:15 21-Dec 15:40 Operations ---------- The SSR fill level was OK throughout the week. The decimation level was changed from "normal_active" to "normal_normal" at 351-06:31:46 UT. (That's Dec. 17). - Accelerometer levels at about 28 mG, cryopower 64 W. - Particle levels remain high. - No data gaps Illustration ___________ As an innovation I've made a program that looks at the QL data and confirms your faith in the Neupert effect (hsi_neupert_plot.pro) as seen in the attached figure. Tohban ___________ Tohban for week of Dec. 22 is Richard Schwartz Tohban for week of Dec. 29 is Jim McTiernan
