Tohban report, 2005/08/01 to 2005/08/08 Steven Christe (schriste@ssl.berkeley.edu) 1) Solar Activity: Flare activity originated mainly from a decaying AR#10792 (which produced the X-class flare last week) and an emerging AR#10794. AR#10792 produced a few M class flares in the beginning of the week and is now content with producing C-class flare along with its partner AR#10794. The background level remained near B1. How many GOES flares occurred? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 41 14 4 0 And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 17 7 2 0 And how many had EXCELLENT coverage? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 15 3 1 0 There were RHESSI flares/GOES flares 52 / 59 over the time range 31-Jul-05 07-Aug-05 More C-class flares are expected while the chance for M class is now only 20%. 3) Memory Management: The SSR fill level began the week at 57%, and with several active regions currently on the near-side of the Sun, another memory deletion had been proposed. Based on the position of the read pointer, it was decided that a data deletion would insure little or no decimation for a possible X-class flare. Unfortuantely, it was found out to the Tohban's dismay that data deletions are NOT possible without the direct input from either Mark and Jeremy. Since they were both on the east coast and being that the data deletion was only decided as a safeguard, we therefore decided to take a chance and not delete data. Fortunately (or perhaps not), no X-class flares occurred and solar activity has been diminishing since then therefore memory has slowly decreased to it's current level of approx. 13%. 4) Data Gaps: There were a bunch of data gaps but only in the last few days so perhaps they will be filled(?). These may be related to the power outage yesterday. We're in the NORMAL/VIGOROUS mode. Front segment data are not being taken during S/C night. 6) Other issues: G2 is now segmented since the voltage was lowered. The voltage on G5 and G6 will be lowered today (08/08/05). The Tohban list has been updated. Tohban reports should only be sent to tohban@ssl.berkeley.edu 7) Next week's Tohban is: Amir Caspi
