Tohban report, 2005/08/08 to 2005/08/15 Amir Caspi (cepheid@ssl.berkeley.edu) 1) Solar Activity: Activity was incredibly light this week, with only a single C-class flare from the decaying AR#10792. We caught the very early rise and parts of the decay for this flare, but missed the peak due to the SAA. 15 B-class flares also occurred. ARs 10792, 10794, 10795, and 10796 rotated off the disk mid-week, while new ARs 10797 and 10798 rotated on-disk towards the end of the week. All of the active regions appeared fairly weak and non-complex. There may be a medium-sized AR on the farside that should rotate on-disk by the end of next week, but odds for M or X flares within the next few days are very low. The GOES background dropped from ~B1 early in the week to ~A3 late in the week. It has since risen slightly to ~A7, presumably due to the two weak ARs currently on disk. 2) Memory Management: The SSR was at ~15% at the start of the week. Thanks to low activity, it remained reasonably steady throughout the week. As of the end of the BGS pass at 15-Aug-2005 (day 227) 19:14:44 UTC, the fill was at 26.274%, and should reach ~15% again by day's end. With the predicted low activity, it may be advisable to resume taking front-segment data during nighttime. 3) Data Gaps: A small data gap in VC3 occurred nearly each day during the week. There is also a long data gap recorded for the end of Aug 14, but we have not yet finished taking down the data for that day. There were a couple of small gaps in VC1 data on Aug 11 and 12. Plots from ~12:00 UT on August 6th are entirely blank. The hsi_tohban_flare_counter program could not run without these files. Jim McTiernan has been notified and this should be fixed soon. The SOH plots for Aug 11 (day 223) and Aug 13 (day 225) do not span the entire day. Aug 11 plots stop at ~21:00 UT, and Aug 13 plots stop at ~02:00 UT. SOH pages (the entire page) are still missing for days 016, 117, 186, 201, 203 through 207, 209, 217, and 218. 5) Decimation and night-time: We're in the NORMAL/VIGOROUS mode. Front segment data are not being taken during S/C night. 6) Other issues: The HV on detectors 5 and 6 were lowered 2 steps on Aug 8. They are both still segmented. The spacecraft was spun up on Aug 11. Next week's Tohban is: Albert Shih (ayshih@ssl)
