RHESSI Tohban report, 28-Dec-2005 to 04-Jan-2006 Martin Fivian, mfivian@ssl.berkeley.edu 1. HAPPY NEW TOHBAN YEAR! 2. Solar Activity Although there were quite a few active regions on the disk, the solar activity was low during this time. With a Goes base level at B1, a few low C-class flares occured at the beginning of the week, but only one is partially covered by RHESSI. During the week, the solar activity dicreased even further. The Goes baselevel is currently at A3. Goes base level from B1 to A3. How many GOES flares occurred? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 7 2 0 0 And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 2 1 0 0 And how many had EXCELLENT coverage? Flares above B, C, M, X class were 1 0 0 0 There were RHESSI flares/GOES flares 11 / 9 over the time range 27-Dec-05 04-Jan-06 3. Memory Management Due to a high wind warning, the Berkeley ground station had to be shut down for Dec 30. Loosing 6 BGS contacts filled the memory to about 50% at the beginning of the next BGS. With the Sun being pretty quiet, we should gain 4 to 5% per day in the SSR fill level. This has not happened yet since we had one to two passes (WLP) less per day. As of today, we are back to normal and should have the memory empty within a week or so. 4. Decimation All week: ACTIVE/VIGOROUS. According to the quiescense of the Sun, the decimation could be lowered. The Tohban was waiting for the problems with the attenuator logic to be resolved. 5. Attenuator Logic On Dec 31., the table which is used to determine the attenuator state has been altered to use the livetime of Detectors 1,3,4,9 instead of 3,4,5,6. This resulted in an about 10 times higher datarate filling up the memory within hours. Deleting this 'bogus' data by resetting the write pointer locked the attenuator temporarily in state 3 because of operational issues. By Jan 2, 03:02, this issue has been resolved by switching back to the old table, deleting some data (mostly fast rates), and re-enabling the shutter motion and pulling the shutters out. It has been left open to determine what caused the problem. i.e. replace one of the dectetors and see whether the livetimes read nominal values. 6. Next Tohban: Albert Shih
