Solar Activity

Activity level is high! There was an X2 flare on Sept 6 at 2212 UT. Though the data isn't down yet, RHESSI's observing time did cover this flare. The X2 originated from a complex active region (11283) near the center of the disk, so there's the potential for further activity. There are 7 active regions on the disk, though 2 will soon rotate off. It should be noted that the base GOES level has decreased down to B class (from mid-C class a few days ago), but this was also the case right before the X flare.

How many GOES flares occurred?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 12 19 4 1

And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 8 13 4 0

And how many had EXCELLENT coverage?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 7 11 2 0

Note that above RHESSI totals do not include data from the last day (including the X flare).

Memory Management

The SSR fill has reached as high as 61% due to increased activity. To reduce the fill, more passes have been added, eclipse data is not being taken (with the exception of 4 min at each side), and decimation is being changed to Active / Vigorous (formally Normal / Vigorous).

Data Gaps

Right now the data from almost all of 2011-09-06 is being listed as a data gap; probably this data has not yet downloaded and made it through the processing chain.

Instrument Status

In keeping with the policy of having a different detector act up each week, this week there was a small spike in detector 6 on Sept 3 at 4:51:50 UT. This is probably not a big issue yet, but should be watched.

The subject of another anneal was brought up, though a full discussion with wait until a presentation has been put together on the issue. The rear segment data is virtually unusable for a few of the detectors, so gamma ray studies would benefit from another anneal.

Operations

Cold plate 2 is at 102K. Spin rate is 14.6 rpm; it's probably time for a spinup but we will hold off on this because of the flare watch. More passes have been added. Decimation changes and nighttime data changes are being commanded as mentioned above in memory management.
