************************************************************************** ************* PLEASE READ THIS **************** We have changed the way we refer to detectors and channels in the BATSE software in an attempt to conform to the BATSE PI team standards. Previously, we referred to detectors and channels using numbers counting from 1 (i.e. detectors 1-8, channels 1-6 for DISCLA data). I. Detectors: A typical user selects detectors using aspect or sensitivity ordered selection (the default in the interactive plot program). In this mode, we continue to use the numbers 1 through 8 to select detectors, i.e. detector 1 identifies the detector expected to have the highest flare count rate. However, when referring to physical detectors, we now use the numbers 0 though 7. If a user opts to disable the aspect or sensitivity ordered selection, then selection is based on physical detector number. In this mode, for example, selecting DISCLA data from detector 0 will retrieve data from LAD 0. In either case, the detector number displayed on printout or plot labels is the physical detector number, numbered 0 through 7. II. Channels: Channels are numbered from 0 now. For DISCLA data, channel numbers range between 0 and 5; for CONT data, the range is 0 through 15; for DISCSP data, the range is 0 through 3. The only exception is that GOES channels continue to be numbered 1 and 2. ************************************************************************** **************************************************************************
