**************************************************************************** ************** !! GRAPHICS DEVICE INDEPENDENCE !! ************************ **************************************************************************** New features in BATSE software February 14, 1992 There are several new features in the BATSE software, all associated with moving toward graphics device independence (finally!). Until now, all graphics was done using Tektronix format and users without (or with poor) Tektronix capabilities were out of luck. Now, you may select from Tektronix, Regis, or X Windows for screen output, and Tektronix or PostScript for plot file output. Of course your hardware must be capable of handling the format you choose. Use option 0 in the main menu, or the SelectDevices command in the graphics programs to select your graphics devices. Restrictions: - At the moment, only DECnet users can use X windows for screen output (more specifically, the machine on which the window will be displayed must be on the DECnet network, i.e. running the DDCMP protocol). We have ordered the MultiNet software which will allow both DECnet and Internet users to open windows, and we should have it running in a few weeks. - The quicklook orbital plots are still in Tektronix format and can only be displayed on Tektronix-emulating devices. - Previously, the archive flare plots were stored as Tektronix plot files. In order to allow the flexibility of viewing the flare time profiles in the formats mentioned above, we now save the flare plot data itself rather than the prepared Tektronix plot file. Therefore, you can no longer type or copy the plot file to display a plot or capture a plot file. Options 3 and 4 in the main menu provide an easy means of displaying the data (with the ArchivePlot command). And because the data itself is saved, in Option 3 you can choose whether to combine Channels 1 and 2 or overlay the two traces, and you can display multiple plots on one page.
