BATSE SOLAR VIEWING TIMES Kim Tolbert July 22, 1992 Updated, April 22, 1996, Richard Schwartz Select option 5 from the BATSE menu to obtain a listing of time intervals during which BATSE was observing the Sun. Files recording time intervals during which BATSE was in spacecraft night, the high voltage was off, or there were data gaps, are updated on a weekly basis and used to determine the solar viewing intervals. The original BATSE predictive ephemeris from which our database is constructed may be found at website ftp://grossc.nasa.gov/plan_dat/solar/. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using the BATSE Ontimes Program: On entering the program, the user is presented with a menu displaying the current settings of parameters and the available commands. The user either accepts the default value of a parameter, or changes the value by typing the first 3 letters of the parameter description, comma, the new value. When the parameters are set as desired, the user issues a command (again, the first 3 letters are sufficient). Upper or lower case may be used for input. A detailed description of the parameters and commands is given below. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sample session: sta,92/2/1 end,92/2/15 ont Display viewing times for days between 92/2/1 and 92/2/15. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A. BATSE Flare List Program Parameters: START TIME - Lower time limit for viewing intervals. Format is YY/MM/DD. Default value is 91/04/19,0000 (the earliest BATSE data available). Example: STA,91/4/23 END TIME - Upper time limit for solar viewing intervals. Format is YY/MM/DD. Example: END,91/4/27 OUTPRINT - Output device for ONTIMES and PRINT commands. Options are Terminal, Printer, and File. If File is selected, you will be notified of the file name. Default is TERMINAL. Example: OUT,PRI EMAIL ADDRESS - Address for mailing ASCII output. The first time the user opts to have a file mailed to himself, he is prompted for his email address. For the rest of the session, that address will be used instead of prompting the user for an address each time. To mail to a different address, reset this parameter. HELP - Display this help file on screen. You will prompted for whether to mail this help file to yourself. LISTMENU - Display the menu. MAILONTIMES - Mail list of solar viewing times generated by last ONTIMES command. You will be prompted for your email address if you haven't already supplied it. ONTIMES - Generate list of solar viewing times for times between specified START and END time on output device specified by the OUTPRINT parameter. PRINTONTIMES - Print list of solar viewing times generated by last ONTIMES command on output device specified by the OUTPRINT parameter. You will be prompted for whether to mail this information to yourself. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (This information is stored in file BATSE$DATA:HELP_ONTIMES.TXT.)
