Space Science Informatics and the Solar-B Observatory
R. Seguin, N. Hurlburt, D. Schiff and S. Freeland

We are currently developing a standards-based, cyber-infrastructure system for the Solar Optical Telescope on the Solar-B orbiting solar observatory. This serves as part of a larger Heliophysics informatics system. This includes a knowledgebase and ontology system to help relate planned observations with actual observational data as well as computational models and will have a citation system. We are adding solar-related extensions and tags to the VOEvent standard in order capture intent and semantic information for use in the knowledgebase and for integration with the Collaborative Sun-Earth Connector (CoSEC).

The purpose of this effort is to make the scientific data more accessible and useful to the scientists by allowing them to do reasoning and more flexible searches and ask different questions of the system than previously allowed.
