Hi! I am a student from Terrell Jurior High School. My teacher along
with some of her students and myself spent a week with the SUNBEAMS program.
We did a lot of fun educational activities. We were assisted by Dr. Woods,
and Mrs. Stokes. We did an activity called "Measuring the Angle of Reflection".
We also did an activity called "The Broken Pencil in Water". We attended
the 40th anniversary of NASA. We were able to eat a piece of a 40 foot
cake. We also had free ice-cream. We danced and played also. After the
40th anniversary we made a comet. We learned that scientists discovered
that there is dirt, ammonia, water, and syrup inside a comet. Then we made
telescopes. We decorated them and tested them to see if they work correctly.
Hello! I am a student at Terrell Jr. High School. The last week we have
been here at NASA,
and the NASA workers Ms. Stokes, Dr. Jo, and Mr. Wood helped us learn,
learn, and learn about Stars,
Planets, Light-Years, Galaxies, Comets, the Sun and other fantastic
stuff about our Universe. So
much stuff that will help us in the future! Maybe I'll be a NASA scientist
some day. When I grow up I
would like to become a scientist like the great people a NASA. It shows
that NASA is always
stuck helping the universe because when NASA had its 40th Anniversary
none of the NASA
workers danced. I bet they were talking about what they were going
to do when they got back in the office. They act like kids that got off
of a 2 week punishment. I learned about the fourteen instrument's of the
Hubble Space Telescope and what there function was. We learned how to make
a comet, what
gases are given off by the sun and stars. We learned about the six
layers of the sun. To all the people at
NASA, Thank you for having us and teaching us a lot of things, A special
thanks to Mrs. Stokes, Dr. Jo,
Ms. Malloy, and Mr. Wood. See you in eight years and Good Flight, Good
Night.
Speak
for the Students
My week at NASA was very wonderful and I really enjoyed what we did.
It was fun
and pretty easy and I really liked that. I really liked the dry ice
that we made comets with and
I also really enjoyed doing those telescopes. I felt that it was an
honor and a privilege to be a part
of this 40th Anniversary of the NASA program. I really want to thank
Mrs. Stokes and Dr. Woods for
a very wonderful and a very enjoyable week and I really want to thank
them for a job well done. In
closing I would like to thank my science teacher Ms. E.N. Waynes for
taking time out to bring her
loving 7th graders to this wonderful and enjoyable program over here
at the NASA program. I think I
speak for all the students when I say we had a very wonderful and very
nice week. I also enjoyed
working with some students I never really was able to work with this
school year. If I was to ever tell
someone about the NASA program I would tell them to go along with it
and hang in there until the end
because it is worth the time and wait it is also a very nice program
to get into I really mean that from
the bottom of my heart. So once again NASA, MRS. Stokes, DR. Woods,
MS. Wanyes, and DR. JO thank
you for a very wonderful week.
Telescopes
During the time I was at the SUNBEAMS program I did lots of activities.
Some of the activies I did
were making comments, discussing the way light travels, making telescopes,
talking about the HUBBLE
TELESCOPE. We also went to the 40th anniversary of NASA. Atthe anniversary
we ate some cake. We
danced, we played, we laughed, and we bought some stuff. We also interviewd
some people like
Dr.Wood, Mrs.Stokes, Dr.Jo, and Mr. Gilbert.
What I did at N.A.S.A. What I learned in the SUNBEAMS program was how
to read people's mind with a card game and how to make a comet and the
most fun at N.A.S.A was when we went to the party .
I have learned a lot from my visit to NASA GSFC and I feel very lucky
to be in the SUNBEAMS
program. Some of the things I learned to do was: how to interview someone
without getting personal; how
a sattellite works; all about spectra and how it helps NASA; and many
other fun and educational
activities. We even had a chance to attend NASA GSFC's 40th anniversary.
Being here was very fun and
stimulating to my intellectual mind. I cannot express my appreciation
to the staff at NASA GSFC for
having me and my class explore and learn more about the world of NASA.
Thank You!!!
My week at NASA was great. While at Goddard we did so many activites.
On the first day we met Mrs.
Stokes and Mr. Woods. They gave us a notebook a pen and a pencil. Mr.
woods showed us a slide of the
Goddard Telescope. We learned alot about Mrs.Stokes and Mr. Wood. Through
the whole week I enjoyed
myself. Mrs. Stokes showed us the right procedure to do an interview. We
talked about the sun and what
lives off of it. We talked about elements like silicon, helium, magnesium,
iron, nickel, chromium, and
aluminum. We made a telescope that really worked. We also made a comet.
My week at NASA was great.
Hi,I am a seventh grade student at R.H. Terrell Jr. High School. All
this week my classmates and I have
been going to the sunbeams program. As you know it is at NASA and we
do all kinds of hands on activties
that we don't usualy get to do at school. And as an extra bonus we
got to go to the 40th anniversary
parade. We also got to see a model size mock up of the Hubble space
telescope. In closing I think all
kids should get the oppertunity that I did because it is a wonderful
program (I am the one with the blue
shirt and red hat in the picture) Bye.
Hi, I am a member of the SUNBEAMS program. I am 13 years old in the
7th grade I am attending R.H.
Terrell Jr. High. So far I learned about the sun and other stars, galaxys,
black holes, and magnifying
things. This program is a really good program for kids to learn about
different things in space.
Now I'm going to tell you what I learned; the sun is made up of a big
ball of gas and fuel. If it runs out
of fuel, it and other stars will explode. The galaxy is made of a bunch
of stars. Black holes are formed
when stars die and it explodes and makes something like a ring. Well
that's what I learned so far. So until then, peace in the middle east.
I am a student from R.H. Terrell Junior High School. My first trip to
NASA was fun and educational.
We learned many new things that we did not know at school. We learned
about the moon, the stars and
the Sun. We made a telescope and interviewed Dr. Wood and Dr. Jo. Dr.
Wood talked to us about the
Hubble Space Telescope. We learned that when light hits a mirror at
an angle, it will bounce off of the
mirror at the same angle. We learned about the parts of the Sun. The
Sun's light keeps Earth from being
dark. The Sun's energy comes from a reaction in its core. We learned
how to use light from the Sun to
identify elements present in the Sun. We learned how to read people's
minds by using number cards. I
had a nice time during my trip to NASA. I would like to thank Dr. Wood,
Mrs. Stokes, and Ms. Waynes.
Hello, I am from Terrell J.H.S and I would like to tell you about SUNBEAMS.
My first day at
SUNBEAMS was so much fun. We interviewed Dr. Wood and he talked about
the Hubble Spece Telescope.
We learned a lot of things about the Hubble Space Telescope. While
we were there, we were invited to
NASA's 40th anniversity. It was fun, we danced, and had a good time.
We made a telescope and we had a good time making it. My last day
there, we had a good time and I hope you have a great time.
Hello friends out there. My class mates and I had a chance to come to
the Goddard Space Flight Center to do our projects from May 3-7. The first
day at Goddard we learned some things about the (HST) also knowed as the
Hubble Space Telescope and some pictures that it took about stars, galaxies,
and planets. The people at Goddard invited us to their fourtieth aniversery
in which they had a fourty foot long cake and a band to play. The next
day we did telescopes. Parts of the telescope were hard but we did
O.K.. I think me and my partner did the best telescope. It is a pleasure
and honour for me and my class to be apart of the space program at Goddard.
Hi I am a student from R.H.Terrell Iam going to tell you something that
I ENJOYED SUNBEAMS. The best thing I had fun doing was the broken pencil
in water. When I first did this paragraph I thought that it was boring
but during the week it was the 40 annivesary. It was so fun.
I wanted to came back. We interviewed Dr.Wood and Dr. Jo. We
asked them questions. In NASA they study about science. I study things
I don't know .
I am a student from R.H. Terrell Junior High School. My first trip to
NASA was fun and educational.
We learned many new things that we do not learn at school. We learned
about the moon, stars and sun.
We made a telescope, but I was not able to attend. We also made a comet.
It was a blast. It was an honor to be recognized at the 40th anniversery.
We also learned what the correct procedures were to an
interview.
HI! I AM FROM TERRELL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL. WHEN I WAS CHOSEN TO
GO TO NASA FOR A WEEK I WAS SURPRISED! WE HAD SOME ACTIVITIES LIKE MAKING
COMETS. HERE ARE SOME MATERIALS: WE USE 2 CUPS OF WATER, 5 LARGE PLASTIC
BAGS, AND SOME OTHER MATERIALS. WHEN I WAS HERE WE INTERVIEWED SOME
FAMOUS PEOPLE HERE AT NASA.
I AM A STUDENT AT R.H TERRELL J.H.S IN THE SEVENTH GRADE. DURING
THE WEEK
AT NASA I HAVE EXPERIENCED A LOT, AND I FEEL THAT I HAVE LEARNED A
LOT. DURING
THIS WEEK I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT DIFFERENT KINDS OF LENSES; FOR EXAMPLE
THERE IS A CONCAVE LENS AND A CONVEX LENS. I ALSO LEARNED ABOUT A POSITIVE
LENS AND A NEGATIVE LENS. I LEARNED ABOUT THE PARTS OF THE SUN. NASA
HAD THERE 40TH ANNIVERSERY,THEY HAD A 40 FOOT CAKE. I THINK THAT WAS A
GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME. WE ALSO DID SOME GREAT ACTIVITIES LIKE WE MADE
A COMET
AND WE MADE A TELESCOPE. I THINK IF YOU EVER GET AN OPPROTUNITY TO
VISIT THE
GODDARD SPACE CENTER YOU SHOULDN'T LET THAT OPPORTUNITY PASS YOU BY.
