Back Projection

• Most straightforward reconstruction method (Mertz, Nakano, and Kilner 1986)

• Equivalent to a 2D Fourier transform (Kilner and Nakano, 1989).

• Called the "dirty map" by radio astronomers

• A linear process

• Unique in linearity

• Individual Photon Method:
  1. For each photon arrival time (i), make a modulation pattern (P_im)
  2. Multiply the pattern by the flux and weight the patterns according to Duroucheaux's recipe
     • P_im = P_im - <P_m>
     • P_im = P_im / < P_m²>
  3. Add the modulation patterns together

• For a point source, the maximum equals the total flux.
