Enabling the Task Scheduler Service (Windows NT, 2000 and XP)

Task scheduling uses the Perl program to enable automatic nightly updates to your SSW installation.  A Task Scheduling service is already provided with the Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems.  If you have chosen to install Perl on these platforms, please follow the steps below:
 
 

Determine if Task Scheduler is enabled:
1.    Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the Windows desktop.
2.    Double-click the "Control Panel" folder.
3.    Double-click the "Services" icon. (Inside the "Administrative Tools" folder for Windows 2000 users.)  A "Services" panel will appear.
4.    Use the scroll bar to locate "Task Scheduler" under the heading "Service".
5.    "Started" should be listed under the "Status" heading.
6.    "Automatic" should be listed under the "Startup" heading.
7.    If Task Scheduler is not set as indicated in steps #5 and #6, continue to the next section below.
 
 
Enabling the Task Scheduler (Win NT):
1.    If you have not already done so, bring up the "Services" panel.    (see above)
2.    Use the scroll bar to locate "Task Scheduler" under the heading "Service".
3.    Double click on "Task Scheduler".  A smaller "Service" panel will appear.
4.    Under the heading "Startup Type" check "Automatic".  Click "OK".
5.    On the larger "Services" panel click "Start".
6.    Verify that "Started" is now listed under the "Status" heading.
7.    Verify that "Automatic" is now listed under the "Startup" heading.
8.    Click "Close".

 

Enabling the Task Scheduler (Win 2000):
1.    If you have not already done so, bring up the "Services" panel.    (see above)
2.    Use the scroll bar to locate "Task Scheduler" under the heading "Name".
3.    Double click on "Task Scheduler".  A smaller "Task Scheduler Properties " panel will appear.
4.    Click the tab labeled"General".  In the box labeled "Startup Type:" choose "Automatic".  Click "OK".
5.    Under "Service Status:" click the "Start" button.
6.    Click "Apply", click "OK" and close the panel.
