Step #3           Configuring IDL Preferences

These changes require that you always start an IDL session by running the sswidl.bat file.

1.    In the ssw setup directory, locate the file named "sswidl.bat".  If you have installed SSW on your c:\ drive, you will find it here: c:\ssw\site\setup\sswidl.bat.  Create a shortcut to it on your desktop.

2.    Start IDL by using the "Start" menu at the lower left corner of your screen.

3.    In IDL, from the "File" pull down menu select "Preferences...".

4.    Open the "Startup" tab and write down the contents of the "Startup file:" entry.

5.    Delete the "Startup file:" entry.  Do not delete the "IDL Main directory:" entry.

6.    Click "Apply" and "OK" then exit from IDL.

7.    If you want to customize your own IDL startup configuration follow these optional steps.

8.    Reminder:  You must always start an SSW IDL session by running the sswidl.bat file (or the shortcut to it located on the desktop).
